Abstract：Modern port, the object of study for transport geographers, has been viewed in the broader context of urban and regional development in the western countries since 1940s. In this paper, a review was carried out covering the books and articles written by western geographers on the topic of modern port and urban/regional development. Some comments were made on the literature, too.
